Georgia state troopers can now take digital driver’s licenses, safety department says — Valdosta Technology news

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The public can now present a digital driver’s license or ID to Georgia Department of Safety officers, the agency announced on Friday. During traffic stops, crash investigations or other encounters, all state troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers and Capitol police officers will now be able to scan the digital ID. The department says you can tell the officer you’d like to use your digital license and hold your device near the identity reader. Don’t give your device to the officer, officials added. The update follows H.B. 296, a bill signed in 2025 that requires police to be able to verify electronic licenses by July 1, 2027. The department recommends the public still carry their physical ID as well. Click here to learn more about what a Georgia digital driver’s license and ID is and how to get one.
